If you already have a US license, coupled with a Belgian License, but -due to JAA introduction- the number on your US license does not match anymore, you should send (fax) the ‘Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License, Rating, and Medical Certification‘ form to the FAA.

In item number 11 (FSDO) mention the New York International Field Unit (IFU) as well as the name of Thomas Hughston as Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE).

In return, the FAA will issue a letter to Thomas and a copy to you. With this letter you have to present yourself to Thomas for authentication.

Thomas can be reached(!) on following numbers :
Mobile : +(44) 7710-564421
Home : +(44)1760-725-083
Fax : +(44)1760-725-083

Further, you will need to do a bi-annual flight test (just like for your jar license) with a licensed FAA instructor, for example Francis Claesen. He can be reached at +(32-496)571-598 or by mail f.claesen@gmail.com.

That’s it. You can fly a ‘N’ registered aircraft.

I received a letter from the FAA to send back a document called ‘Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License, Rating, and Medical Certification’. This document needs to be faxed, along with a copy of the Belgian License and Medical to +1 (405) 954-9922.

I guess the FAA people will contact the Belgian Authorities to check legitimacy of my documents. Therefor, since this not done automatically, i emailed a copy of my ‘Medical’ to sandra.vandenhoeck@mobilit.fgov.be to join it to my file. She call also be reached on (02) 277-42-84.
